  4. After I release Archives, my compresses file manager for Windows 3.1,
  5. I will be writing "Arranger", my (secret) for Windows,
  6. look for ARCH40.ZIP for the next version of Archives and ARRANG.ZIP
  7. for Arranger! Registered users of Archives or Accesses will get
  8. Arranger for 1/2 price!

  21. Very Advanced Windows 3.1 Program Manager's Startup Group TIP:
  22.  
  23. To start up windows 3.1 the way you want, do something like the
  24. following (if this is not clear, call me):
  25.  
  26. Delete    Accesses.exe from your WIN.INI Load= line.
  27. Add    "Accesses.exe !FolderNo10" to the LAST ICON of
  28.         Program Manager's Startup Group.
  29.  
  30. in Accesses !FolderNo10 you can have the following:
  31.  
  32.     !FolderName=Startup Folder
  33.  
  34.     !program1=PauseSecs 2        <- varies with computer speed
  35.     !program2=PlaceDefault clock.exe
  36.     !program3=StayOnTop clock.exe

  45. This assumes that the Program Manager's Startup Group launches: clock,
  46. winfile, drwatson, dayalarm, and a PIF file. MAKE SURE ACCESSES IS
  47. CALLED ONLY ONCE DURING THE STARTUP PROCESS because Accesses has to
  48. ignore multiple calls during the startup process.  eg DO NOT start
  49. File Manager from the Program Manager's Startup Group via
  50. "ACCESSES.EXE FILEMGR.EXE". (Because while Accesses is waiting for
  51. File Manager to startup, Windows may send the !FolderNo10 command to
  52. Accesses.)
  53.  
  54. Start "Accesses.exe !folderno10" from the last icon in the Program
  55. Manager's Startup Group. Use the Arrange Icons of Program Manager to
  56. "set the icon order".  To Save the Win 3.1 Program Managers settings
  57. without Closing Program Manager: From Program Manager, press:
  58. Shift+Alt+F4.
  59.  
  60. Changes thru 9/20/92        (Version 3.0d)
  61.  
  62. 0.    Added AccKernl.exe. See ACCESSES.WRI. AccKernl is not a
  63.     "real Windows program" but just a "Windows Command" that
  64.     Windows will run then close. The purpose of this command is to
  65.     speed the Ctrl+Esc key combination for the users who have
  66.     computers with very low memory. AccKernl was developed after a
  67.     registered user requested a speed increase to the Ctrl+Esc key,
  68.     and was tested using a 286 computer with only 2 megs of RAM
  69.     memory. See ACCESSES.WRI.
  70.  
  71.     "Ack Kernel" is an optional "program" for any user who wants
  72.     the Ctrl+Esc speed increase.  This will not speed Accesses if
  73.     you configure Accesses so that the popup window is hidden, in
  74.     this case Accesses discards its code segment, and Window will
  75.     have to reread the code from disk.
  76.  
  77. 1.    Mostly bullet-proofing versus Version 3.0c.  I believe that I
  78.     found a Window's function that could in very low memory
  79.     situations (even if during just an instant) that would give
  80.     Accesses a divide by zero error. I'm checking the divisor of
  81.     that Window's function before calling it.  Has to do with
  82.     reporting Resource Memory.  Only occurres when running on
  83.     low memory systems.
  84.  
  85. 2.    A few dialog boxes were modified slightly for esthetics.
  86.  
  87. 3.    Fixed (I believe) a problem where the Phone Calling function
  88.     wouldn't call on one user's modem.  By checking Windows Header
  89.     files, I found an error in the Window's documentation, again.
  90.     Very frustrating....  Thanks for reporting the error, Buzz.
  91.     I'm fairly confident that this issue fixes it.
  92.  
  93. 4.    Fixed a bug in AccClip when all white space was copied to the
  94.     Clipboard; and added another switch to configure whether
  95.     AccClip opens the Dialog box when AccClip is 1st launched.
  96.     AccClip is still considered a Beta release, although this
  97.     fixes the only problem I've found.
  98.  
  99. Changes thru 9/16/92        (Version 3.0c)
  100.  
  101. 0.    Accesses uses Run-Time dynamic linking so this version is
  102.     compatible in both Windows 3.0 and 3.1. Accesses supports
  103.     Drag Drop and Font changes when operated in Win 3.1.
  104.  
  105. 1.    Added a Launch Pad. Left Mouse Single Click on the Middle 1/3
  106.     of the Accesses Popup. The Run buttons are configured the same
  107.     as your Task List menu under Run. Ctrl+Alt+L+Esc will call
  108.     this dialog box from any Windows program. However, the Window
  109.     that has the current focus may Act on the Ctrl+L.
  110.     See ACCESSES.WRI Tutor for details.

  112. 2.    Added AccClip.exe (beta release). A Text format Clipboard
  113.     Stack saver. Hopefully, intuitive because there is no written
  114.     documentation, yet. I can add other formats to be saved if
  115.     there is enough demand. Because of AccClip, Accesses limited
  116.     Clipboard functions were removed.
  117.  
  118. 3.    Accesses now has a poor man's Sound Function.  Accesses will
  119.     read *.snd Sound Files.  Windows will automatically play *.WAV
  120.     files for those folks that have a sound board and Accesses
  121.     will read Text files and play those thru the computer's
  122.     speaker for the folks (like me) that don't have a Windows
  123.     compatible sound board. All of this is in discardable memory
  124.     so other than having an executable file that is slightly
  125.     larger, there is no extra baggage for those folks that don't
  126.     want "computer speaker sound".
  127.  
  128.     Drag one of the *.snd filenames and drop it on the Accesses
  129.     popup or use the following Command Line:
  130.  
  131.         accesses soundfile anthem.snd
  132.  
  133.     Sample sound files are located in the ZIP file with the "snd"
  134.     extension.  Anthem.snd shows the format of the text files.
  135.  
  136. 4.    Fixed problem where not all of the AccDrops were getting FONT
  137.     change messages from Accesses, and where ReReading the INI
  138.     file caused AccDrop to loose the document name.
  139.  
  140. 5.    Fixed Accesses so that WordPerfect for Windows and other
  141.     cantankerous programs would attach to a F2, F3, etc. key. You
  142.     must enter the a portion of the Window's Caption as the "Menu
  143.     Description".  Press Ctrl+Esc, Alt+R, C and enter "WordPerfect"
  144.     (or a portion of whatever the title is for the program 
  145.     excluding the Document's name beginning from the left side of
  146.     the Window Title) as the "Menu Description" and
  147.     "c:\wpwin\wpwin.exe" as the "Command Line for Executing".
  148.  
  149. 6.    Clicking once on AccDrop and pressing the F2 function key or
  150.     Holding the Left Mouse Button down and clicking the Right
  151.     mouse Button on the AccDrop popup Will Activate that Window
  152.     if Active else will launch that Window (similar to the
  153.     Accesses Popup Function Key and Mouse Click Functions).
  154.  
  155. 7.    DOS windows in the Enhanced Windows Mode now follow the
  156.     "MaxAfterRun on /off" switch.  I found that some folks were
  157.     wanting to save the Restored Window Position of the DOS Window
  158.     in Accesses and using the Microsoft Windows 3.1 feature to
  159.     save the Maximized window position. THIS MAY CONFUSE YOU!!!!
  160.  
  161.     See ACCESSES.WRI, Placing Windows/Launching Programs in
  162.     SECTION # 2
  163.  
  164.     To override this so that Accesses uses only the restored
  165.     Window position for your DOS Windows, Select:  Ctrl+Esc,
  166.     Alt+U, V, Alt+. (period).  Then from the "Edit DEFAULTSIZE"
  167.     dialog box, scrolldown thru your list of Window Titles and at
  168.     each DOS Window check the "Restored" button then Alt+G to
  169.     save each change. You can do this for all of your DOS Windows
  170.     without closing this dialog box for each one.
  171.  
  172.     To save the Window position that "Microsoft Windows" will use
  173.     for a Maximized window, Maximize the DOS Window and then Close
  174.     it by typing EXIT in the DOS window.
  175.  
  176. 8.    Ctrl+Alt+P+Esc will open the Phone Dialog Box. Still not using
  177.     a Windows Hook so you'll have to hold the Ctrl+Alt+P down
  178.     longer than normal and Tap the Escape button. (just like
  179.     Ctrl+Shift and Tapping the Esc).
  180.  
  181.     Ctrl+Alt+R+Esc will open the Run Programs Dialog box.
  182.     Ctrl+Alt+M+Esc will open the Multiple Select Dialog box.
  183.     Ctrl+Alt+A+Esc will open the Alarms Dialog box.
  184.     Ctrl+Alt+L+Esc will open the Launch Pad Dialog box.

  186. 9.    Added Basic Browse, Copy, Move, Delete File functions.

  189. 10.    Automatically opening *. (no extension) files using the TXT
  190.     extension in your Win.INI.

  192. 11.    One version of Accesses will operate in Win 3.0 and 3.1

  197.     document into. Became tired of that App doing only one

  221. 1.    DO NOT add Accesses to the WIN.INI Load= or Run= line.
  222.     Windows 3.1 sometimes has a problem when 2 programs that use
  223.     Fonts are loaded here! I am recommending that users manually
  224.     add Accesses to the Program Manager's or Norton Desktop's
  225.     "Startup Group" instead to launch Accesses when Windows 1st
  226.     Starts.
  227. 2.    Changed the dialog boxes so that the Tab key makes more sense;
  228.     although, tab doesn't go to all of the buttons using this
  229.     philosophy.
  230.  
  231. 3.    The dialog boxes move to the bottom left corner now instead of
  232.     the top left when their Help button activates Accesses.hlp.
  233.     Suggest saving Accesses.hlp's DEFAULTSIZE to the top 1/2 of the
  234.     screen.

  236. 4.    Accesses's Alarms will now launch programs at a specific time.

  238. 5.    Allowing semicolon as a REMark to a Folder's Command Line. Accesses

  272.     the WIN.INI were in capital letters. A user told me about this

  281. 2.    Fixed a problem launching WinWord version 2.0 from Accesses Run
  282.     Program Dialog Box when WinWord was already running. Sometimes
  283.     another window would be activated when WinWord was already running.

  285. 3.    Allowing the user to enter a file mask of "*.extension" or
  286.     "filename.*" in the Run Program dialog box "Run:" edittext box.

  288. 4.    Improved the mouse click to stop a !Folder.

  290. 5.    Version 1.6 of Dayalarm allows the user to include or not include
  291.     the Day of the week in the Window Title. Double click on the
  292.     calendar and look under setup.

  295.     Slower computers should limit the total number of "Run User List"
  296.     programs since this reads the ACCESSES.INI file everytime the

  317.     mode.

  322.     screen when it is activated, I have disabled some multiple window

  396. 3.    A bizarre function: Click once on Accesses's popup window then press
  397.     Alt+U will convert the clipboard text contents to upper case.
  398.     Alt+L to lower case. Alt+P to proper case.  Alt+S will strip
  399.     formatting from WinWord text saved to the clipboard. Clicking the
  400.     middle mouse button on the left 1/3 of the Accesses popup window is
  401.     the same as pressing Alt+L, middle 1/3 equals Alt+S, and right 1/3
  402.     equals Alt+U. (See version 2.9j above)
  403.  
  404. 4.    Hold the Left Mouse button down and Clicking the middle mouse button
  405.     on the left, middle, and right 1/3 of the popup is the same as
  406.     pressing F10, F11, and F12 respectively when the popup has focus.
  407.  
  408. 5.    If you select more than one file from another program and Drag Drop
  409.     to Accesses, they are all launched (using WIN.INI extensions if they
  410.     are not executables).

  414. 1.    Accesses was not placing DOS windows properly for some users when
  415.     the user launched DOS apps in WIN3.1 mode using a command line
  416.     without the PIF file name.  For example:

  420.     If you do not specify the PIF filename and then launch a DOS app
  421.     thru Accesses, then the MILLISEC_DELAY_WIN variable for the Windows
  422.     mode becomes significant. See "Millisecond Delay" using the Search
  423.     button of the Accesses.hlp file. If to fast, then the window is not
  424.     placed properly for you.

  448.     Checked or grayed means that the dialog box is will be
  449.     auto inserting or has already auto inserted.

  451.     Not checked means that the user is over riding the default insert
  452.     mode.  Basically, the Run Dialog box is complicated but makes much
  453.     more sense to the user and fewer errors are made due to this
  454.     addition.

  456.     Also functions very well with the Drag Drop version of Accesses.
